Features

Everything below follows the product documentation for version 1.0. The builds published so far are 0.x pre-releases and may not contain every item yet.

Layouts

Nine layouts cover how a job is printed, cut and bound. Each diagram below is drawn from real sheet and page sizes.

1 2 3 4
N-Up: 2 × 2 A5 pages on SRA3.
1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1
Step and Repeat: eight 85 × 55 mm cards on A4, every cell showing page 1.
1 3 5 7
Cut and Stack: sheet 1 of 2 in an 8-page job holds pages 1, 3, 5 and 7. Sheet 2 holds 2, 4, 6 and 8.
16 1
Booklet: the outside of sheet 1 in a 16-page booklet carries pages 16 and 1.
N-Up
Several pages per sheet in a grid of 1 to 64 columns and rows, filled left to right and top to bottom. With duplex, the sheet holds twice as many pages.
Step and Repeat
One page repeated across one sheet: business cards, labels, stickers, tickets. Any single source page can be chosen.
Cut and Stack
N-up ordered so the stack reads in source order after cutting. A source page can be pinned per cell.
Booklet (saddle-stitch)
Pages re-ordered so the folded sheet makes a booklet. Duplex is required and the page count is padded to a multiple of 4.
Perfect binding
Signatures of any multiple of 4 pages, at least 4, with creep per signature. The cover is split out as a spread with a computed spine, inline or as a separate PDF.
Section sewing
Signatures for sewn sections under the same multiple-of-4 rule. No thread allowance is added.
Spiral and Wire-O
One page per sheet side in source order, with an 8 mm punch margin on the binding edge. Duplex is optional.
Gang Run
Different artworks on one sheet. Each lane is an input with a copy count, and the grid has as many columns as the square root of the total copies, rounded up.
Work and Turn, Work and Tumble
Both sides printed from one plate: turn splits the usable area left and right, tumble splits it top and bottom.
  • When there are fewer pages than cells, choose how the rest is filled: pad with blanks, repeat the last page, cycle the pages, or stop with an error.
  • Pick source pages with a range such as 1-3, 5, 9-.
  • Reading direction is left to right or right to left; the binding axis is automatic, horizontal or vertical.

Bleed, margins and creep

Bleed
Taken from the PDF TrimBox and BleedBox, set symmetrically, or set per side. "Retain trim size" is on by default. If a PDF has no bleed, it can be generated by mirroring the edge, scaling and clipping, or enlarging the graphic.
Margins and gutters
The planner uses the larger of the sheet's printable margin and the job margin, per side, with one horizontal and one vertical gutter.
Creep
Move or Shrink, for booklets and signatures. Presets run from 0.10 mm (80 g) to 0.33 mm (300 g), and the total can be set by hand. With 16 pages on 4 sheets of 0.5 mm paper, the sheets shift by 0, 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5 mm. Marks stay fixed while the artwork moves.
Duplex
Long edge or short edge, as the physical edge of the oriented sheet. A printer shift can be applied and it moves the back overlay too.

Marks

Marks sit on named PDF layers: Cut Marks, Fold Marks, Registration, Colour Bars and Slug. A RIP can switch each layer off.

Corner crop marks
Length 5 mm and thickness 0.25 pt by default, offset from the bleed, in the registration colour. L-corner, cross, dashed or solid.
Trim lines
Edge-to-edge lines over the artwork, off by default. They can be combined with corner marks.
Inner cell marks
One shared mark when the gutter is twice the bleed, two parallel marks otherwise.
Manual cut marks
Alt-click on the canvas to drop one, drag to move it, right-click to delete it.
Registration targets
A circle with crosshair arms, four per sheet at the edge midpoints, or eight with the corners.
Colour bars
Patches of 14.17 pt. Presets: default CMYK with 8 patches, solid swatches with 4, and a gray calibration of 10 steps from 10% to 100%.
Fold marks
A dashed line at half the sheet width.
Slug bar
Job name, date and time, "Sheet 3 of 12", custom text, input file name, page numbers and the imposition type, in Roboto Regular with Slovak diacritics.

Colour and PDF output

Modes
Pass-through leaves colours as they are. Convert rewrites them to an output profile. Per-input mode converts only the inputs you switch on.
Rendering
Four rendering intents: relative colorimetric (default), perceptual, saturation and absolute. Black point compensation is a separate switch. Ink limit from 1% to 400%, applied to converted colours.
Spot colours
Separation and DeviceN colours are detected and listed per input. One switch decides whether converted inputs keep them or convert them. Marks are never drawn on spot plates.
PDF flavours
Plain PDF 1.7, PDF/X-1a and PDF/X-4. PDF/X-1a refuses RGB content, transparency and non-embedded fonts; PDF/X-4 refuses non-embedded fonts. The files follow those structures but are not certified.
Failures are named
An unsupported image type or a missing font stops the export with an error that names the input and page. Nothing is half-converted.

Variable data

Sources
CSV, TSV, Excel (.xlsx), JSON and SQLite. Files up to 50 MB, with no record limit.
Overlay
Text and barcodes are drawn on top of the imposed sheet, and source PDFs are never modified. Fields have a size, alignment, CMYK colour and position, and can be dragged onto a cell.
Barcodes
QR with error correction level L, M, Q or H, Code 128, Code 39, EAN-13, UPC-A, Data Matrix and PDF417. They are raster images with a fixed quiet zone.
Expansion
On Step and Repeat each cell takes its own record. On every other layout the whole plan repeats once per record.

Workflow

Templates
34 built-in templates, such as 8-up business cards 85 × 55 on A4 and 24-up address labels 70 × 37 on A4. Your own are saved as .imposetpl files and can be shared as bundles.
Paper
Libraries for ISO A, ISO B and C with SRA, US sizes and envelopes, plus custom sheets with per-side printable margins that can be exported and imported.
Preview
A schematic view and a rendered view at 72, 144 or 300 DPI. Zoom from 5% to 800%. Undo and redo are unlimited during a session.
Inputs
PDF, PNG, JPEG, SVG and TIFF.
Updates
The app checks the release server a few seconds after launch and then every 24 hours, and installs a verified update on request. Crash reports are opt-in and off by default.
